Introduction

In the past couple of decades, our planet's soil has been worsened mostly because of inefficient waste management. The general result of this has assisted to the extinction of numerous wildlife species and has initiated human killings due to wellbeing hazards conveyed by waste pollution. The harmful consequences of inefficient waste disposal are now apparent everywhere. There is a need of effective waste management to bypass farther damages to public wellbeing and the environment. And it is our blame to request answers to these environmental problems. But actually what is waste management and how does it sway our lives? Waste management is characterized as the disposal of wastes or management of waste materials. Its major target really is to correctly dispose waste components without harming the public wellbeing and the environment. However, with today's fast-paced dwelling, this target is often neglected thereby imitating diverse harmful consequences encompassing decimation of nature.

There are several types of waste, some of the major types of wastes are: Municipal, Industrial, mining and hospital waste. The food industry is one of the industrial activities which have greater importance for the development of peoples, however, one of the foremost activities that cause impacts on the environment. One aspect of concern is the amount and volume of waste generated by the production of new works. The type of industrial waste is directly related to population growth and lifestyle of individuals, issues such as improving the quality of life, the development of large amount of construction and technological advances have led to a progressive and uncontrolled growth of the volume of waste is produced mainly in the urban environment (Begum and Siwar, 2006, pp. 190)

Improper Waste Disposal Practices

The common practice for food industry refuse disposal is to dump solid and liquid wastes openly in backyard or an open space. Improper trash disposal practices include household refuse, agricultural remnants, food leftovers, oil, plastic bags, tin cans, ash and packaging, such as cartons and used sacks. They become waste once they have been discarded because they are no longer needed in their present form. Refuse, garbage, litter and street sweepings are all terms used to describe solid wastes in various situations (White, 2009, pp. 45). Another word used in the context of biodegradable solid waste is putrescible, which means the waste decomposes (rots down) quite quickly. Waste can also be described as combustible or non-combustible depending on whether it will burn or not. Putrescible wastes generated by growing, handling, preparation, cooking and consumption of food. These kinds of wastes tend to be more abundant during the summer (rainy) seasons. Non-putrescible wastes do not decompose easily; they may or may not be combustible.
