Weaknesses

Studio Entertainment

The themes of most of Disney's animated movies, music videos, and theatrical production remain quite monotonous and repetitive, which might have been acceptable in the 80s and 90s. Now it is becoming highly mundane, especially in face of the competition it faces10 .

The relationship of Disney with Pixar remained controversial. Issues raised due to disagreements regarding distribution; acquisition of Pixar was delayed8.

Miramax has been quite infamous for making unwanted editing and “cuts” in movies10.

The number of superheroes produced by Studio Entertainment is too much. This again is due to the repetitive themes8.

Parks and Resorts

The target audience is highly limited. The most common target of its Disneyland theme and adventure parks includes families with little children. A mature audience would not be intimidated by the environment that exists in all of its theme parks - family friendly atmosphere, and animated characters. This is a huge let-down because the potential target market already exists and can contribute as a larger portion of its target market7.

Hong Kong's Disneyland resort is getting overcrowded as the daily capacity limit had been undermined. Customers had to wait in queues for as long as two hours5.

As enjoyable as they seem at the very beginning, most of Disney's concepts, ideas and practices are centred towards “capturing” the target customer, but not at “retaining” him or her. After a while the person starts feeling boring and loses interest when the same thing is repeated over and over again.
