Functional Conflict

A conflict which is supportive of group goals and enhances performance and achievement of outcome may be termed as a functional conflict. As opposed to dysfunctional conflicts, functional conflicts are enriching in nature (Mukherjee, 2009). For instance, two employees debate over their views regarding a change in management policies, and one is able to persuade his opponent into being more productive under the new system, then learning has occurred and hence the conflict would be viewed as positive.
