Differential Effects of Technological Change

Globalization of Technology

This article is written by Archibugi and Pietrobelli and was published in the journal of Technological Forecasting & Social Change in 2002. Just like any other transfer of information, globalization of technology has left positive impact around the globe. By making use of media, technical and scientific workshops, travelling, Internet and a number of other communication resources, globalization has enabled nations to transfer knowledge about technology between each other, and that to on a much broader scale. The significance of technological expertise and technological knowledge cannot be neglected. Most importantly, globalization of technology is helping developing countries to improve themselves. The example of India, best fits in this regard, as the country has already made its way through globalization and is still striving to make the most of the technological knowledge its citizens have. Moreover, as a benefit of having technological knowledge, the citizens of India are getting better paid jobs in more developed countries such as China, United States and so forth. In addition to this, the citizens of India with technological know-how are providing training workshops to people around the globe, which is in turn creating their position as technological experts around the globe (Archibugi and Pietrobelli, pp. 861-863).

However, in negative terms, the internet is full of frauds and illegal acts are being carried out on a large scale. The goal of the people who commit internet frauds and deceiving acts is very simple. All they want is to get a person's confidential data and hack into their online banking accounts. They do so by getting a hand on the person's particulars, his or her family information, the hobbies and the lives of these people which can be easily accessed through the internet (Rothenburg, pp. 5-9).
