The book written by a young girl is an extraordinary account of a commentary on war and the horrors it inflicted on the humans. It deliberates on the changes in life that eight people had to endure as they remained hidden for two years in Holland in order to protect themselves from the Nazis who had occupied the country. The book offers a remarkable description of the determination and strength displayed by this small group as they were confined to a hidden room which was inside the office of Anne Frank's father. The thoughts and ideas expressed are those of young girl who grows up from the age of thirteen to fifteen with extraordinary experiences that causes her to mature much beyond her age. The group after remaining concealed successfully for two years and fed by some friends was finally betrayed to the Nazis. They were transported to the concentration camps where Anne eventually died of typhus in March 1945.

Anne is an impulsive, quick-tempered, tender maiden girl with a mind whose thoughts are always running ahead of her experience. Among the many themes that the book covers are loneliness, isolation, youth, mortality, oppression, identity and suffering etc. Among all the major themes, what appears most catching and prevails the rest is the theme of courage, and the resolve shown to fight for survival in the face of heavy odds. It is about the determination shown to adapt to the difficult conditions they were faced with and to continue living with optimism and hope.
