Introduction

Diabetes was discovered by ancient Egyptians in 1500 B.C.E. According to them It was an individual condition in which the subject urinated in excess and there was a significant weight lost observed in his body. The terminology of diabetes mellitus was specifically used for the reason that urine of such persons which were affected by this kind of disease had tasted sweet, as described by Greek physician Aretaeus, who dwelled in the era of 80 to 138 C.E. In the year, 1776, a physician named Mathew Dobson practically found the level of glucose in the urine ofaffected person and it was founded to be incrementedto a significant value in comparison with normal persons.

Discussion

Diabetes was initially identified as clinical disease in 1812 when it was founded in the New England Journal of Medicine and Surgery. At that time its existence was not properly documented and the physician did not have any sufficient Knowledge of the parameters that lead rise to this particular disease. There was no effective treatment devised and it was equally fatal in the duration of weeks to months after the diagnosis of the fact that it is raised by insulin deficiency.

In past 200 years, great basicresearches have been performed in realizing of the reasonsbehind the condition of diabetes and the strategy to its treatment and prevention. Even though, the disease has a risk of reduced life expectancy, but in recent years significant researches have been made regarding the disease and the life style of the patient has been dramatically changed. The patients of the disease are now living happy and productive lives from the period of several decades after theinventionof the causes and symptoms of the disease.

There are too many methods of treatment and therapy of hyperglycemia and the complexities associated with it. The research of diabetes and relevant aspects of metabolism of glucose concludes that it acts as a gate for scientific inquiry that around ten researchers have received Noble Price for their remarkable work in the field of diabetes and the problems associated with it. Hence it can be said that as an outcome of past 200 years, there is significant improvement regarding the treatment of diabetes.

It is interesting to note here that recent scientific improvements have led to workable policies for preventing diabetes. In fact, if diabetes is viewed by an individual public health and collective standpoint of the society, very nominal progress has been made not too much progress has been done towards the treatment of the disease in past 200 years. The view point that today we are worse scenario then we were in 1812 cannot be denied. Two hundred years before, clinically diabetes was the name of severe insulin deficiency. It might be possible that besides this the patients might face some milder forms of hyperglycemia but it was usually not detected on record.
