Introduction

Observation is the key element for initiation of study of behavioral characteristics of children. Most of the renown theorists; like, Piaget, Vygotsky and others physiologists have used the same 'observation' as a research tool and come up with quite an insight about the developmental progress of the child as well as their current status (Pahl, 1999). In the young children, the observation is used to have an initial exploration of the specified area, which can be expanded to more focus methodical studies. Also, it is helpful to access the information collected via different ways (Sapsford & Jupp 2006).

In this live observation, I have used three observation method on the six-year old child (male). The core reason for conducting the observation is to analyze and detect the developmental delays in that child and also to present various possible solutions to tackle the problems of the subsequent delays. However, the study is focused on three core parts which are physical, cognitive, and psychosocial aspects along with the general overview of interests and routine of the child. Before going on with the analysis and discussion of various domains, an understanding about the subject is of keen importance.

Background

The subject is a six-year old Ali who is currently studying at the privately-owned nursery school and living in Brooklyn, New York on 15th June, 2013 at 10:30 pm. The Ali has Arabic family background and has two older brothers of age 8 and 10. As far as the observation portfolio is concerned, timed observation is employed to get a bigger picture of behavior as well as surroundings of the child. I met the child when I visited my niece at the very same school. Hence, the observation is dependent on the behaviors exhibited at school.

The Ali was with his mother at the time of observation and meeting. I have met them both for the first time, and they were quite well-behaved and shows quite a good behavior. I have told them about the study that I am going to conduct and asked for their humble consent. She pondered for a moment but afterwards she was ready to corporate with the interview. The session lasts forty seven minutes in which I have asked the Ali about his interests, hobbies, daily routine and studies. The Ali has quite an interest in playing soccer and baseball.
