The purpose of the paper we will explore the early adolescence and early adulthood in an individual case study. In the exploration concerning human development, Erik Erikson a well- known psychoanalyst saw human developmental growth in eight stages. These stages begin at birth and end in late adulthood. According to Erikson's stages, individuals experience these stages successfully or unsuccessfully. This paper will focus on and individual in the early adolescence stage and the trauma that he experienced in early adulthood, because of Hurricane Katrina.

In this exploration concerning human development, Erik Erikson, (1950) a well-known psychoanalyst saw human developmental and growth in eight stages. These stages begin at birth and late adulthood. The following are psychosocial stages are basic trust versus mistrust, the development period is from Birth-1 year. The infant well develop a sense of trust, that the world is good. When mistrust occurs the infant has not received the care and attention that is needed to secure a trusting foundation. This is constructed in the first year of development (Sutherland, 2002).
The following stage is Autonomy versus shame and doubt; the developmental period is from 1-3. The child is able to choose and navigate new found, mental and motor skills (Berk,2010). The caregiver is starting to allow the child to maneuver and explore their own environment, by the caregiver allowing the child to have a new sense of purpose. When the parent allows the sense of self, the child will start to feel a sense of freedom in their new found environment.
Initiative versus guilt, this stage is between the ages 3-6. This period of development is a part of the child's world of make believe play the child is starting make their world tangible through, what Erikson calls “initiative”. When the parent totally expects too much self-control from the child, causing the child to feel excessive guilt (Berk,2010).
In the next five stages, of the psychosocial stages in development according to Erikson's Theory from the stage of 6-11. Children are starting to expand their world through home, school, and peer interactions and forming the stage of industry versus inferiority. The social skills and bonds are being constructed with classmates and group peer interactions. If this process is disrupted, by a negative experiences within these group setting. The child will feel inferior and incompetence causing a developmental delay in development. In the Adolescence, This stage is where the child constructs their world view, by questioning, according to Erikson, “Who am I” and what my place in society is”. For some adolescence at this point the question may also arise about their sexual orientation (Sutherland, 2002).
As for identity versus role confusion, the young person is forming and questioning their purpose in life. This is the stage for setting personal goals pertaining to educational goals and career choices are starting to be made.
