Developing Research From Case Study (Lightly & Brightly)
Developing Research From Case Study (Lightly & Brightly)
Background Study
Officer Brightly, a social research scientist joins an effort with officer Lightly to develop a plan to involve citizens in protecting their own communities. She believes that beginning the study by focusing on what motivates citizens to participate actively in providing for their own safe community is the wrong place to start. Officer Brightly proposes another direction; she is interested in examining what prevents or demotivates people from taking action so clearly in their own best interest. She believes learning about these phenomena will aid the team in overcoming challenges through designing a comprehensive and thoughtful plan. Attempting to solve the guesses about the “why” here, she wants to examine the reality - systematically, thoroughly, and accurately.
Development of Research Questions & Hypothesis
Questions
Extracting from the case, the questions being pulled here are:
(1) Why do people find discouragement in providing benefit to their own selves? And
(2) Why do people find themselves motivated to serve their own community?
Hypothesis
Drawn by the observations by officer Brightly, her research would base on following two hypotheses:
Hypothesis (1): People are discouraged of providing benefit or serving their own selves.
Hypothesis (2): People are motivated to participate for the welfare of their community.
Analysis of Hypotheses
The case carries two ideal hypotheses to be discussed. The first hypothesis, which officer Brightly must pay a key eye on, is the discouragement that the people are seen to experience from services they render within the community. The second hypothesis states that the people are motivated to participate in the activities that benefit their society.
Types of Data Collection
Like most of the researches, two methods are to be used in this research to collect data for the said scenario: primary and secondary (De Leeuw, 2005). These ...
