Nursing Sensitive Health Indicators

Nursing sensitive health indicators are referred to patient health outcome that are determined to be nursing sensitive and can be improved when there is a high quantity or quality of nursing, for example high blood pressure, environmental allergies, pressure ulcers, etc. Research indicates that certain patients are more extremely connected to other aspects of institutional care like medical decisions and healthcare organization policies, for example cardiac failure, where these are not considered as nursing sensitive (ANA, 2013). Thus, nursing sensitive health indicators reflect health outcomes of the patient(s) that needed to be assessed for avoiding adverse health effects. So, the nursing sensitive health indicators for the chosen family are represented below.

Client Focused

The client focused nursing sensitive health indicators that are reflected in the chosen family include preference of junk food by husband and son that can cause various adverse health effects like high blood pressure or cholesterol, mother having ADHD since childhood, mother's highly stressful profession causing inability to sleep, mother suffering anxiety; cardiac arrthymias; and acid reflux, father having high blood pressure; multiple joint issues; and kidney stones, unhealthy eating habits of father, and son having medical problems since birth including food and environmental allergies. Thus, client focused nursing sensitive health indicators include high blood pressure, ADHD since childhood, high stress and inability to sleep, anxiety, cardiac arrthymias, acid reflux, multiple joint issues, kidney stones, unhealthy eating habits, and numerous medical issues since birth including food and environmental allergies causing issues such as asthma.

Provider Focused

Based on the nursing sensitive health indicators of the chosen family, provider focused indicators include appropriate and healthy nutritional needs for father and son, mother's regular participation in physical activities or exercises throughout the lifetime as maintaining a healthy body results in improving psychological well being and prevents early fatality (CDC, 2011). This will also help in controlling weight, decreasing symptoms of anxiety; depression; and enhances mood. Need to develop and provide proper diet plan for father as well as physical activity or exercise plan, since it would decrease his weight and thereby reduce his blood pressure, level of cholesterol, and sleep disturbances like joint pain and sleep apnea (Ehrman, Gordon, Visich, & Keteyian, 2013). In addition, there is a need to provide assistance and proper plan for a son to understand his asthma and allergy issues while avoiding practices and taking precautions for avoiding any adverse health issues.

Community Focused

Community focused indicators include all healthy habits and activities that can make a better and strong community. Proper diet, healthy nutritional food, physical activities and exercises, and understanding health issues as well as taking precautions must all be focused and adopted in order to create string families and healthy community.
