Doubt in Descartes

Doubt in Descartes comes in several times, or modalities. There is indeed doubt about the truth of our perceptions, which probably relates to the senses, and which is supported in the first Meditation Metaphysics, by the example of optical illusions. But there is also doubt hyperbolic doubt, which did while on the sensible, then reaches the whole sphere of reality, including the world intelligible. Mathematical truths themselves are not immune. It is this process of doubt which enables Descartes to arrive in the Meditations, the cogito. It was he who proves empirically (not a logical demonstration), the existence of our freedom.
