Introduction

Capital Punishment or the Death Penalty is referred as an action ordered by the government to kill or execute any person because of the guilty accepted by him or her for committing a serious crime. There is not a single doubt that executions are referred as a final punishment for committing a crime, as there is no retraction from death. In fact, the reasonable option for capital punishment is life in prison without parole, yet many countries still follow the action of death penalty. The main reason is the debate on the issue that whether capital punishment is ethical and justifiable which is a hugely disputed matter. The arguments for and against the death penalty will be discussed in detail in the upcoming paragraphs.

Arguments for Death Penalty

Prison: There are basically three reasons for prison. The first reason is that prison separates the criminals from the general population. It leads to the safety of the people. The second reason is that prison is a good option for giving punishment to the criminal. The third reason is that prison helps in the rehabilitation of prisoners. It is carried out to decrease the probability of these criminals committing crime again and leading a normal life after getting released from jail.

Prison Cost: Normally, the cost of imprisoning anyone for life has a high cost rather than executing the same person. An expensive cost related to appeal which is made in the favor of criminal by the lawyer in courts presents an argument that capital punishment has a low cost as compare to the cost of life imprisonment.
