Christopher Johnson McCandless was born on February 12th, 1968 in California. He was the first of the two children of Walter “Walt” McCandless and Wilhelmina "Billie" Johnson. He had a sister whom he considered his only friend, Carine. In 1976 the family moved to a suburb of Washington, D.C. where his father gets a job in NASA, and his mother worked with Hughes Aircraft, who later started her home based consultancy in Annandale.
