Introduction

Jazz is known as the first original American style that had the power to significantly affect music in different parts of the world as it is a musical language of communication. Roots of jazz range from soared gospel choirs that are mixed with field hollers and the growl of the blues that is deep, to driving bands of brass and ragtime syncopation beat. These roots are widely celebrated everywhere in the United States (Wayne & Rubin, 1992).

Discussion

During the 1920s, the genre of jazz in music evolved and advanced to become an integral part of the American culture which was popular. The initial "primitive" sound of jazz that had initially originated in New Orleans enhanced and diversified, and this caused it to appeal to a diverse range of people, belong to different echelons of society. Jazz has had enormous effects on the literary world and this can be demonstrated by the genesis of the jazz poetry's genre. Jazz influenced not just the taste in music of the people, but also their lifestyles. It could be seen that the fashion that prevailed in the 1920s was dramatically affected by jazz music (University of Minnesota, 2012). The genre of jazz music also furthered the Women's Liberation Movement, and provided ways of rebellion against the established standards and norms of society. Apart from that, the status of African Americans was increased in level as this type of music provided popularity to the African Americans and made them distinct in terms of music (Wayne & Rubin, 1992).

What was previously considered as "bottom culture in American history, achieved high levels of success and popularity and become a commodity that was highly desired in the society.
