Introduction

This paper provides the 30 references on the topic named “An overweight 35year old woman with diabetes” from the 3 different databases. These databases areProquest, EbescoHost and Sage-reference. Additionally the paper discusses the features and the strengths and weaknesses of three of the databases/catalogues of these databases.

Features of the databases

ProQuest Direct is an online search system of databases with citations, abstracts, and many full text articles from magazines and newspapers. These databases include ABI/Inform, Washington State Newsstand, Platinum Full-Text Periodicals and Research Library Complete.

In Ebesco more than 70,000 new full text dissertations and theses are added to the database each year through dissertations publishing partnerships with 700 leading academic institutions worldwide and collaborative retrospective digitization of dissertations through UMI's Digital Archiving and Access Program.

Whereas sage is the world's most comprehensive collection of dissertations and theses, the official digital dissertations archive for the Library of Congress and the database of record for graduate research.

Strengths of the databases

The strengths of the proquest database includes a business index (ABI/INFORM), a health care index (ProQuest Nursing Journals), a full-text index of over 500 newspapers, and a research index that covers a wide range of subject areas including education, literature, political science, psychology, and popular interest topics.Additionally, it automatically suggests additional topics to help guide searching

EBSCO database includes much more key periodicals,various journals and full text journals which is keeping updating,and the full text journal inclusion has a longer time span. Moreover,the search functions and technologies are more powerful,which is better for precise retrieval and professional nature of databases. In regard to the use of databases,libraries could account their own costs,choose the platform with higher quality on the content and retrieval system and more comprehensive advantages.

Sage includes over 6000 searchable magazines and journals; the full text of most articles is included. Full-text indexes of five historical newspapers (New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Wall Street Journal and Christian Science Monitor) back to the first issue of each.

Weaknesses of the databases

All the three databases doesnot provide the full text coverage is about

sending students to databases that will not support their research papers with current articles

The Search Terms and Strategies

ProQuest Direct defaults to a Basic Search. Enter in your word or phrase and click search. You are also given the option to search different combinations of databases. Ebesco is made up of several smaller databases. You can search any or all of these databases by clicking on the “Multiple Databases” drop-down box. You can select a specific date range for your search by clicking on the “Date Range” box. In Sage ereference student can limit your search the following ways. Full text: finds articles that are full text in the database. Scholarly: finds peer-reviewed articles that meet a high academic standard.
