Data Protection act, NMS and NHS ensure that Nurses pay strong attention to the confidentiality of patient data, and give patients their due respect when dealing with them. Data confidentiality plays a very significant role in determining the effectiveness of Health Care. It enhances patient confidence and keeps their data safe and secure, which in other case may not be the case leading to problems for Nurse and Patient. In this paper, we will discuss the suggestions made by various bodies and will find how Nurses could work in this regard.

Maintenance of patient's data especially in handing over is one of the most important aspects of a health care organization. A patient may visit Health care organization from time to time, hence it is necessary for Nurses to have sufficient knowledge about the patient's history. If health organization maintains the data efficiently, than this information could be very useful for the health care organization, in terms of quality of health care services. Lack of information and quality can lead to a lot of problems for the doctor and the staff (Harrison, Lee, 2006, p. 279).

If the data about the patient is not properly maintained, than it could create enormous problems. There has been a lot of complains in the recent past about the availability of quality data and patients and mishandling of the data. There have been cases, when data has been substituted, because of wrong entry of the name in the records of the health care organization (Harman, 2006, pp.40-44).
