Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of “Cyber Culture” in a critical context. The main focus of the research is on “Cyber Culture” and its negative aspects for our society. The research also presents the different concepts and critical analysis that have been presented in writing by different authors in different books. Views of these different authors have been presented in this paper to critically analyze the scope and impact of cyber culture on our society. In the end, it has been concluded that though there are certain positives of cyber culture, yet it also has certain negative aspects, as well. It does affect our society in a negative sense, as well.

Introduction

Cyber culture is the cultures that emerged or are emerging the use of computers for communication, the entertainment and online marketing. Culture is born of the application of new information technologies and communication as the Internet. Culture based on the advantages and disadvantages of absolute freedom, the anonymity and netizens with rights and obligations (Goldsmith, Jack, Wu, Tim, 2006).

Critical Analysis of Cyber Culture

The term "cyber" is used by several authors to group a number of contemporary cultural phenomena linked mainly, but not limited to, the profound impact that they have conducted digital technologies of information and communication on issues such as reality, space the time, the man himself and his social relations (Goldsmith, Jack, Wu, Tim, 2006).

Some authors like Kerckhove and Levy, define cyber culture as the third age of communication, which would set, an even more universal language than the alphabet: the digital language. One was that would have followed those of morality and writing. Kerkchove also aims to understand cyber culture from three major features: interactivity, hypertext and connectivity (Intelligence Online, Towards a Society website) (Goldsmith, Jack, Wu, Tim, 2006). It would have much to say about cyber culture. From the standpoint of the impact of technology, a key issue for the cyber culture is to discern how new technologies are affecting the intelligence and ways to use it. In this regard, Kerckhove, in his book, The Skin of Culture Investigating the new electronic reality explores the effects of electronic technologies from television to cyberspace, virtual reality via the Internet, biomechanics and calls for him psycho technologies. Meanwhile, Sherry Turkle in her book Life on the screen, the construction of identity in the Internet age, offers a well documented description of the new subjectivities that arise with the emergence and spread of new digital technologies, and especially about the problem of identity in cyberspace (Lessig, Lawrence, 2006).

Just in a book that addresses this aspect of cyber culture: Eros e Román Gubern is to describe the emotional impact of the new information technologies and communication, from a biological and anthropological perspective (Lessig, Lawrence, 2006). Gubern stops in such phenomena as the spread of pornography, loving email use, sexual application of digital imaging and virtual reality, as well as what he calls the ideal easements.
