There are several names associated with computer and internet related crimes, like e-crime, cyber crime, and electronic crime. All these are the crimes in which networks or computers are attacked or used. The electronic crimes have been used for stealing identities and huge amount of money.

Scams Associated With Cyber Crime

Nowadays many of the traditional crimes including blackmail, fraud, theft, embezzlement and forgery are carried out on internet. As the computer use has been increasing day by day, cyber crime is increasingly getting more popular now (Moore, 2005). Numerous kinds of cyber crimes which can be experienced over net are as follows:

Spam: Unsolicited or spam is to send illegal junk e-mails for the commercial purpose, . In numerous countries anti-spam laws are passed that will hopefully restrict use of unwanted electronic communications. Scammers focus is on the job seekers and a most famous job searching scam is ''Shopper Needed''. Phishing e-mail is another type of scam which tries to trick intended target so that he visits the fake website that has disguised itself to appear like a genuine banking site or e-Commerce (Moore, 2005). The victim might think that he has been logging into his own account, but he/she is unaware that whatever they put on the fraudulent website has been sent to scammers. The scammers with the help of this data can get rid of the account of victim; they operate their credit cards and even steal their identity.

Greeting card scams reach the emails and they pretend as if they are from a family member or a friend. When the person clicks on the link to take a look at the card, he eventually becomes a part of a booby trap webpage which downloads malicious software and Trojans. Then comes the lottery winner scams. The lottery winner scams try to trick the receivers to believe that they won huge amount of money, and after that it bilks them out of their own money in the same manner as in the Nigerian 419 scam (Moore, 2005).

Fraud: Computer fraud is related to fallacious misrepresentation of truth presented with a purpose of triggering people to perform or abstain in doing something that eventually leads to huge loss. Examples of such frauds include facebook claims like “your likes an help poor”. So many frauds can occur through internet that it is beyond the scope of this document to mention all.

Obscene or Offensive Content : The material of few websites and electronic communications on the net could be offensive, distasteful and obscene for few reasons. In majority of the countries, these kinds of communications are illegal. It could be somewhat troubling if your child has experienced adult content.

Harassment: This cyber crime includes all derogatory and obscenities remarks aimed towards any particular person emphasizing, for instance, on sexual orientation, race, nationality, gender and religion. This cyber crime is most often experienced through the newsgroups or chat rooms.
