Introduction

This assignment is based on Cyber Bulling. Bullying, harassment and general abuse have been some of the most studied problems in the field of educational psychology in recent decades. Cyber bullying is the use of the internet to harass someone. The victim of cyber bullying could receive threatening emails, disruptive instant messages (IM) or sexually suggestive comments published on their profile or personal website. Cyber bullying could also include offline contact, but must have an online component to have it classified as cyber bullying. The perpetrator may be located in another country, state or across the street from the victim (Healey, 2011).

Cyber bullying is seen as a serious societal problem which is greater concern for the parents these days. Parents must monitor their children directly by actively involving in their day-to-day task. It is a growing occurrence as it is attracting much concentration by the media. Various news domains is publishing stories on the subject matter. I.T research firms and social service agencies have collected a lot of data about this matter.

Implications of Cyber Bulling on Society

Cyber bullying is a violence through the use of information and communication technologies, utilizing various elements of the internet, such as email, instant messaging, chat rooms, social networking sites, which manifests itself in various forms such as threatening, blackmailing, harassing, embarrassing or ridiculous sending videos and photos, change of identity or impersonating someone's person. On the Web, it comes in a range of anti-social behaviour, especially for the children and young people (Hinduja, 2010).

The widespread use of information technologies and communication has been a major shift in traditional forms of interpersonal relationships that were established within and outside the school context. ICTs are the communication tools with potential benefit. However, if used with the intent to harm, its effects can become harmful, as an increasing number of younger users face the issues of cyber bulling which is a bigger risk factor for society. Cyber bullying is one of those risks. The immediacy provided by social media is available both for friends and for predators. Children are especially vulnerable to cyber bullying practice where the perpetrators, anonymously or even posing as trustworthy people, terrorize people in front of their peers (Bolman, 2008).

The devastation of these online attacks can leave deep mental scars. In several highly publicized cases, victims have even been induced to suicide. The anonymity of the internet can generate dark impulses that might otherwise be suppressed. The cyber bullying is widespread among young people, who reveal that 42% have been victims of such attacks as indicated by a CBS News report, 2010. Online harassment generally occurs against women harassed by men, or children harassed by adult predators.

These situations affect teens, families, and even more communities. The teens need to understand that when they are on the internet, companies are seeing and chasing their behaviour.
