Introduction

Curriculum guide is a plan of a subject related to how the subject is taught and the strategies that are used for teaching the subject to students. Therefore, curriculum guide should embrace the proper goals and objectivity in order to achieve academic excellence. The curriculum plan should have a clear objective which should be rigorous and relevant to the real world. It should have a clear focus on the development of complex and critical analytical skills of every student thus it should help them to develop deeper creativity in the course. Moreover, the curriculum guide should have integrated themes and necessary questions together with standards into routine day to day work of pupils (Parker & Pardini, 2006). The curriculum should be class specific and rational in implementation and writing. The curriculum guide should be planned according to the educational and social needs of the students on the basis of age group. Moreover, the guide should be devised on the basis of content standards, mind habits and thinking skills to promote the collaborative teaching, learning and assessment opportunity for enabling each student to achieve higher standards. In this paper, we will discuss the curriculum guides for Mathematics and English-reading, writing and spelling in appropriate way to promote learning the classroom settings.

English

The instructions for English reading include a balanced approach to writing and grammar. Lessons of grammar provide the tools to students that are used for effective communication. Reading, speaking, writing and listening are complementary procedures. Growth in every area improves the growth in the other. Students are required to obtain oracy, (i.e. the competency of listening and speaking) and literacy (i.e. competency of writing and reading). This curriculum will function to provide opportunities to students for growth in language as a whole (Curriculum Guides for Academic Interventions in English, 2012).

Spelling

The traditions of spelling enable the student to understand the thoughts and read the words. Spelling is an approach of problem solving in which the person is able to apply the knowledge of letter, patterns of spelling and sounds of letter together with meaning to build a word (NoAuthorFound, 2010).

There are three kinds of patterns for spelling a word

Sound pattern is seen in the words that contain rhyming sounds. Sound patterns are relevant to the visual cues when we read a word (Flynn, 2011).

Function pattern is related to the form of the word and how the word is used in a sentence. Structure of the sentence requires the specific word has plural or past tense ending or suffix. The suffix represents the pattern of spelling (Whitfield, 2003).

Pattern of meaning is referred to the word that has similar base, root or origin. Such words contain similar spellings and relevant meanings, although they have different pronunciation (Whitfield, 2003).

Objectivity

At the end of the curriculum, students are expected to write large proportions of high frequency word with correct spellings.

The student will be able to write words that are readable by everyone despite of the spellings of the word.
