Curriculum for Young children

Introduction

This paper is written in response to a request by the diligent authorities to show the sample plan for the first week interaction with a group of 10 students in the age of 3 to 4 years. The school is subscribed to National Association for the Education of Young Children entitled Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs Serving Children from Birth through Age 8. This is kept in mind that no activities fall beyond the mental abilities and development stage of the students for this age. This paper presents and discusses the week long activities and learning environment that, children will be provided in my supervision.

Curriculum Plan for the Week

The curriculum for the week is designed to aid the children in age 3 to 4 years bracket. The curriculum is carefully designed to follow the psychological and physical requirement of this age group. The purpose of pre-school is to prepare the children on all dimensions including social, physical, and mental in addition to academic basics (Oliva, 1982). The idea to provide a fun and play environment that prepares the children for their later academics and social life.

The curriculum will be based on weekly themes. These themes will be composed of objects, places, animals and characters which are often known to children of this age bracket. The examples of such themes are cow and jungle (Pikulski, Mifflin and Bredekamp, 2005). These themes will include multiple activities which will enable diverse students to follow the same theme while having personalized way of learning. The word personalized will be elaborated later on, in this paper, as to how the activities will be tailored to person and not same for whole class. It is the job of the teacher to accommodate the diversity of the class (Katz, &McClellan. 1997).

The first week will be starter for children, where children will be looking to meet new children and teachers for the first time. This can create excitement for some, while not so good experience for others. I will ensure that, all the children feel comfortable and find out what is causing them trouble (if any), and make the situation more comfortable for him/her (Tyler, 1949).

As it is mentioned earlier, that first Monday will be the ice breaking session. So this week opener Monday will be used for becoming familiar with each other. Teaching the children names of their peers, and their coordinators in the setups. It is important that in the first session each kid is provided enough time to speak and present him or herself.

Introduce the children with schedule of the week. How each day will bring them enjoyment, teacher should never reinforce the word “learning” so much that, child becomes afraid of it. Instead teach them while think it's fun. Once they grow up, they will understand the importance of learning and then this word's emphasis is appropriate.
