Introduction

The aim and objective of this assignment is to prepare three blogs on the origin and development of Curriculum, importance of Formative Assessment and characteristics of a quality assessment. In the second part of the assignment, quality assessment strategy will be developed and its key factors will be discussed. In the end, effective assessment strategy has been formulated which can help to evaluate the progress of the students.

Curriculum, Its Origins and Development

The role of curriculum is very crucial and vital for the professional and social development of students because:

It allows students to learn and acquire knowledge as required according to the course.

It provides an advantage to the teachers and help them in sticking to their respective subjects.

It provides guidelines in education and the teachers are responsible for instructing students on the topics listed in the plan.

The curriculum includes:

Goals of teaching.

A summary of course content.

Number and type of learning control (eg oral or written tests)

Competencies, such as the methods, material and expertise that will reach the students

There are four approaches for Curriculum Planning

Behavioural Approach: allows the schools to specify their objectives and goals by matching curriculum activities and contents with the learning and academic objectives.

Managerial Approach: Individual as a leader is responsible for setting out educational policies and academic priorities for the education system.

Systems Approach: School determines different part of curriculum and relations of its contents with each other.

Curriculum is the core aspect of the today's learning design because, it provides an efficient frame works for the effective teaching techniques and represents the basis for the entire educational environment.

The process of Curriculum Development Involves:

Different stages such as formulation of an effective process to drive out the most possible productive outcomes and implementation of the curriculum.

Monitoring of the curriculum if it is delivering the desired outcome or not and then making alternative changes

Curriculum is just like a map which helps us to find the treasure of knowledge. It exists in all the schools and colleges all over the world. It is considered founding stone of the whole education system and plays pivotal role in imparting knowledge to the students.

The importance of Formative Assessment

Formative assessment is defined as:

Set of procedures that is developed and implemented to facilitate and enhance the knowledge and the experiences of both, the teacher as well as the students.

It gives the teacher an idea on the progress of the understanding of the students and is an efficient way to establish communication between a teacher and the students.

It also gives the students an idea of where they stand and how much have they been able to learn from the course and provides qualitative results which can be used for effective evaluation.

Formative assessment involves quality feedback, rather than the scores for both the teachers as well as the students, focusing on the details of performance and content.
