Cultural Relativism

Introduction

Cultural relativism can be defines as a technique, in which, different societies or cultures are observed in a way, where no comparisons are made to judge the significance of one culture with another. Cultural relativism defined by Herskovits as; “Cultural relativism is in essence an approach to the question of the nature and role of values in culture” (Herskovits 1973).

The analysis of different cultures requires an approach, where no comparison is made in the study of a particular culture, with the one where we are living. Another term used in the study of cultures is Ethnocentrism. It is a term opposite to culture relativism ...
