CRKP stands for carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumonia. It is a type of bacteria that is resistant to a broad spectrum of anti biotic. It is a kind of bacteria that results in various kinds of health issues ranging from infections like pneumonia, bloodstream infections, wound or surgical site infections, and catheter-associated bladder infections. These bacteria exist in the intestine or in the stool of the human beings. Those getting certain kind of anti biotic treatment at hospitals are at the greatest risk of getting infected with these bacteria (Ryan, Ray, 2004).
How it is transmitted?
It is transmitted from person to person or through the environmental setting to a person. It is mostly found in a hospital environment in elderly people and in patients who are on ventilators or other kind of devices. It can also be transmitted through the contaminated hands of the healthcare personnel's, as well. Therefore, it can be said that the transmitting of this deadly bacteria to a person takes place when one person is infected and another person uses something that has been used by the infected person. Because of the excessive use of antibiotics through mass vaccination and inside and outside of hospitals, antibiotic-resistant organisms have now become the most common cause of infection. To make matters worse, in many countries people can now acquire antibiotics over the counter (Chanishvili, 2009).
Officials are saying that The CRKP bug is mostly impacting hospital patients, elderly patients at nursing homes, and other long-term care facilities. These are the places where antibiotics are most frequently and often unnecessarily administered. However, this assessment is outdated and no longer valid (Chanishvili, 2009).
How to prevent the spread of it?
Indiscriminate use of antibiotics seems to be doing more damage than we can even begin to understand. Antibiotics are among the most powerful ...
