Critique of Articles

Introduction

This paper intends to critique two research articles. Research refers to the process of investigation employed for the purpose of gaining new paradigms of knowledge (Kuhn, 1970 Pp. 1-25). Researchers mainly investigate on the basis of their assumptions which are essentially paradigmatic. Paradigms are basically the combinations of values and attitude towards the investigation process (Elias & Brett, 1999 Pp. 27-36). It is extremely important to realize that the entire research process is dependent upon the paradigms researchers have identified. Paradigms are assumed to be even more important than the methods employed for the research process (Elias & Brett, 1999 Pp. 27-36). Research is extremely important from the viewpoint of medical treatments and the provision of quality health care to all the patients.

In today's modern world, research has been linked with the utilization of Evidence Based Practice. Evidence Based Practice (EBP) suggests that all the important decisions must be based on scientific researches and the researches must be selected and interpreted according to the guidelines provided by the concept of Evidence Based Practice (Sacket et al 1996 Pp. 312-314). This paper will explore and critique two research articles. The focus of the paper while exploring and critiquing the articles will mainly be on the research process, research approach, sampling, methods of data collection and most importantly the findings and the implications of the study for practice.

The purpose of this paper is to make the reader analyze the significance of research particularly in the field of nursing. Moreover, the aspect of Evidence Based Practice will also be explored. Evidence Based Practice basically refers to the application of the best researches that are available in the field of healthcare. Everyday nursing practices are now requiring the need of applying evidence. Evidence Based Practice is important for the field of nursing particularly when referring to the child health nursing. The articles will be critiqued while considering the ethical issues within the field of child nursing.

Discussion

This paper will discuss the relevance of two articles selected for the purpose of exploration and critique. Both the articles will be discussed separately by focusing on the several main aspects of the articles like the research approach, sampling, methods of data collection and most importantly the findings and implications of the study for practice. All these aspects will be explored and then critiqued respectively.

First Article

The first article selected for the purpose of exploring and critiquing is “Paracetamol plus ibuprofen for the treatment of fever in children (PITCH): randomised controlled trial” which is written by Alastair D Hay, Ce´ire Costelloe, Niamh M Redmond, Alan A Montgomery, Margaret Fletcher, Sandra Hollinghurst and Tim J Peters.

The Research Approach

The first article basically represents the quantitative approach of research. This particular research study is a quantitative study which intends to assess the superiority of paracetamol along with ibuprofen to drug for the purpose of enhancing the time without fever within children. Moreover, the research also intends to investigate about the aspects of relief from ...
