Introduction

The article, The Myth of theMillennials by Koc(2008) points out the behaviors associated with and describedthe Millennials. This article attributed many things to the Millennialgeneration and also provides some information regarding factors surroundingMillennial Generation and further describe those factors. At the beginning of the article, Koc describes the millennial generation as people born between1980 and 200(2008). The article also maintains that the Millennial Generationshares a common view of the workforce. Koc(2008) stated that the workforcedetermines the well-being of the individual and the people who depend on the workforce. Here, Koc is referring to“helicopter parent”.

In the article, Koc highlights oneof the major challenges for the millennial generation is the work life balance in which the generation is faced with choosing a profession or employment pathto simplify or lighten the balance (Koc, 2008).

The Generational Explanation

“A generation encompasses a series of birth years spanning roughly the length of time needed to become an adult: its members share a location in history and, as a consequence, exhibit distinct beliefs and behavior patterns.” This, in brief, sums up the theory of generational analysis. By examining the forming events, attitudes, and culture that exist at the time when a generation is being developed (childhood) we can predict the attitudes, behaviors, and choices a generation will make as it moves into various life stages—youth, young adulthood, mid-life, and the elder years.

For the Millennial generation, we can look back to the events and attitudes of the mid- 1980s to mid-1990s for the formative impacts on the group that is currently entering the workforce. This period saw the United States move into a new phase in its economic history.
