Introduction

We constantly receive information that can be either true or false. Screening out the information and finding out the accurate one is what makes the difference in this fast moving global village. The importance of using the critical decision making model is enhanced in business enterprise in which the managers are constantly surrounded by decisions demanding evaluation and critical analysis (Moore. 2004). Some decisions will require the managers to use the model as quickly as possible whereas some might require deep understanding of the whole issue and the available alternatives.

Discussion

The critical decision making model has the following eleven steps. The depth of critique increases with each additional step. Mr. Hector Fuentes, president of Amalgamated Public Employees Union will evaluate the proposal of the Head of Human Resource using the following critical decision making model.

What are the issues and the conclusion?

The first step involved in the critical decision making model is to know the issue and the conclusion first. This will give a healthy start to critical thinking and decision making. This seems to be simple, but it isn't. A critical thinker has to know the issue and the conclusion that could be drawn from the issue details (Browne, M. N., & Keeley, S. M., 2011). The arguments given by the governor Gloria Gainor may lead to some other road as the Human Resource Head also suggests that this way all of the union employees would lose their jobs. This is because the outsourced employees would be willing to work for a lower wage, thus encouraging the governor to privatize the other departments as well. Outsourcing of the information systems management function within the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) may harm the union members. The president has to critically think upon what will be the conclusion of the proposal given by the governor. One can say that the issue here is ''should the information systems management function within the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) be outsources?''. A conclusion of the issue here in view of the letter of the HR Head, Ms. Mary Ford is that outsourcing the information systems division will be very harmful to the union, and it will end up with all union members losing their jobs''

What are the reasons?

The second step in the critical thinking model is to know the reasons behind any conclusion. Reasons are the evidence, beliefs, analogies, metaphors, and other statements made to justify any argument or conclusion. The HR head has concluded that the President should reject the proposal on the ground that it is highly dangerous for the union, and has a multiplier effect. In order to support the conclusion, the Human Resource Head has given some reasons, as to explain why it is not in the best interest of the union to accept the proposal.
