Does the use of Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) have any advantages over un-fractionated heparin (UFH) for pre-operative thrombo-prophylaxis in patients with cancer?

Does the use of Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) have any advantages over un-fractionated heparin (UFH) for pre-operative thrombo-prophylaxis in patients with cancer?'

Abstract

The assignment aims to assess the literature available to answer the following question: 'Does the use of Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) have any advantages over un-fractionated heparin (UFH) for pre-operative thrombo-prophylaxis in patients with cancer?'

An organized search strategy was employed to search for systematic review articles on the subject of Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) for pre-operative thrombo-prophylaxis in patients with cancer. The Cochrane library was searched and one systematic review Akl et al (2011) was found, which reviewed two relevant studies. Within this review these studies showed no differences in mortality in patients with cancer receiving perioperative thromboprophylaxis with LMWH vs UFH.

To address the inconclusive results within the systematic review, an extended search was conducted on different related sources. There were different resources used in terms of collecting secondary data. In this regard, the required data was gathered from books, peer-reviewed articles and magazines. Moreover, online databases including Emerald, ScienceDirect, Interscience Wiley, JSTOR, SSRN, SAGE Online Google Books and other printed books etc were accessed for the sake of more reliable data. This revealed (1) a randomised controlled trial, (2) a prospective open clinical trial and (3) a pilot study. All these clinical trials reported benefits of using Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) for pre-operative thrombo-prophylaxis in patients with cancer.

While evaluating the currently available data we come to know that the utilization of Low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) as the distributed literary works and encounter fixate on this class of anticoagulants in connection to both safety and viability. Incorporated in this content will be an audit of the information proposing the potential for antineoplastic impacts with the requisition of LMWH, and their impact on patient results. In respect to this, there are in vitro and mammal studies demonstrating anticoagulants, specifically the LMWHs, have an antineoplastic impact through systems for example obstruction with tumor cell attachment, intrusion, metastasis establishment, and angiogenesis

Research question

There are numerous qualities to this systematic review, incorporating the thorough pursuit technique without dialect confinements and the appraisal of production inclination. Akl. et. al. (2011) led study determination in double to minimize the probability of missing pertinent trials, and we had top notch understanding. Akl. et. al. (2011)assessed methodological quality and absorbed information in copy to minimize arbitrary and methodical blunder. The on the whole methodological nature of the incorporated trials was moderate.

In spite of the fact that Akl. et. al. (2011)utilized an exhaustive pursuit system, a potential impediment of this survey is the confinement of the electronic pursuit methodology to patients with tumor; surely, a percentage of the information incorporated in this survey were ...
