Abstract

In this study we try to explore the concept of recruitment and selection of human resource in a holistic context. The main focus of the research is on how recruitment and selection practice can help enhance an organisation's productivity. The research also discusses the traditional recruitment and selection process as well as the relation of recruitment and selection and total quality management. For this, the ASDA (Charlton Branch) has been taken as a case study. The recruitment and selection strategies of ASDA will be analysed to find out the affect of such strategies on the organisation's productivity. Interviews of managers and employees of ASDA (Charlton) were conducted in order to develop understanding of the recruitment and selection strategies at ASDA. The result shows that good recruitment and selection strategy helps increase organisation's productivity.

Introduction

This chapter discusses the background of the study which gives an overview about the functions performed by human resource management. This chapter also includes the aim and objectives of the research, its importance, research questions and information about the company.

ASDA is a grocery retailer store in UK and works under Wal-Mart. Therefore, ASDA has been following the strategies of Wal-Mart to perform its various functions. This chapter covers the compete background of the company and its market share.
