Self-selection of books by students can be a constituent of a literature-based instructional reading program. While self-selection has been a choice for numerous years in recreational reading programs, for example Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) or Drop Everything and Read (DEAR), it is less probable to happen in the instructional reading program (Ollman, 648). As teachers start to use publications more often than basals throughout their instructional reading programs, it becomes significant to permit scholars alternative and flexibility in choosing some of their reading material.
