Abstract

This research paper entails the detailed research of impact of gangs on communities in United States. There has been a notified increase in gang crimes in United Sates over the period of past twelve years that are affecting to intimidation of witnesses, youth, business owners, adults, and potential witnesses. This paper defines in detail the notified pattern of gang and their activities. This paper also entails details related to the impact of gang son communities, by their involvement in taking over the housing development projects of public, increased involvement in drug dealing, increase in the burden of tax payer by $1.7 to $2.3 million annually. Introduction

Over the past twelve year, there has been a notified decreasing trend in crime in the Unites States; however, there has been a significant increase in crimes pertaining to gangs. The question of dispute does not validate for responding to violent crime taking place that are suspiciously affecting communities and neighborhood; however, the question is frequency of the occurrence of gang crimes and the manner of suitable responses. Presently, the public opinion survey by media and law makers, which disclosed that gang related crime is a “national crisis”, which necessitates the need of new state legislations, federal laws, along with new powers pertaining to arrest, imprison, detention and deport of all those youth involved in gang crimes.

In 2005, collective measures were taken address the issues related to gang crisis, by making advancement in federal legislation that was by federalizing law enforcement, which priory was jurisdiction of the state. Meandering the way through senate, the Gang Prevention and Effective Deterrence Act of 2005 made changes in the number of members in to be defined as gang from five to three, formed new offenses of gangs, transformation in the courts and prisons of youth and adults, and augmenting present penalties. The Gang Deterrence and Community Protection Act of 2005 were initiated, which mandatory minimums were announced for offences related to gangs, and expansions were made in death penalty.

Survey of National Youth gang demonstrated the result differentiating the features of areas having least and most problems.
