Introduction

The painter I have selected in this assignment is Rembrandt. Rembrandt was painter and etcher of 17th century, his age is named as “Dutch golden age” due to the dominancy of the pieces he has generated. He is said to be one of the most sacred artists due to his creative triumphs in his contemporaries and also the biblical scenes he has illustrated and his self-portraits. He was born in Leiden, Netherlands in 1606 and was named as Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn; he studied in a Latin school from where he was removed due to his urge of learning painting. He was taught by the great artist Jacob van Swanenburgh (1571-1638) & Amsterdam's Pieter Lastman (1583-1633) (www.biography.com).

In the time period of 1620s to 1669 I(Rembrandt) have made about 90 paintings and the world of today categorize them most loftier or more penetrating personal testament left by any other painter. Most of my portraits are autobiography in the world of art (www.rembrandtpainting.net).

Primary Reason for Painting a Self-Portrait

Making a self portrait can be described as a will of an artist to illustrate or advertise his or her own skills, practicing the craft, exploring some inner turmoil or stake a place in history. I have made several attempts of self portraits in order to make use of my inner self and making the art much more near to my heart. I think that all of the paintings I have made are illustrating something about me in one way or other (weburbanist.com).
