Abstract

The current inventory system and procedures of Marine Corps are manually incentive. The top management of Marine Corps believes that the use of Radio frequency identification (RFID) and Unique identification (UID) can improve the supply chain management and inventory control of navy assets. As there is a need to adopt better technology in Navy which can improve receiving and inventory processing within their armories. Marine Corps can improve their armory processes by using UID and RFID technology.

This study seeks to examine the relationships between one of DoD component organization, the Navy Logistics Agency (NLA) and its major suppliers and how those relationships provide world-class performance through utilizing SRM to improve the Supply Chain Management process. The lessons learned from NLA can therefore be applied across DoD. Over the years leading companies have been focusing on delivering goods and services to consumers as quickly and inexpensively as possible. To do this, an agile supply chain is needed. An agile supply chain senses and responds to changes in demand with speed, ease, predictability, and with high quality. NLA is DoD's combat support agency whose vision is to provide the right part, at the right time, for the right price to naval services. In order for NLA to continue providing logistics support, it must have the capability of providing value to its naval services by leveraging its logistics process to improve SCM.
