Introduction

These days everyone is thinking about his personal and professional life. Everyone wants satisfaction and mental peach for which he is working day and night. Unfortunately many of them are not getting in return what they expect or desire. They earn well, they are known socially and they also have good and lavish lifestyles but what they lack is mental peace. There are many people who suffer from mental traumas caused by professional intrigues or personal incompatibility with their partners. The need of a counselor of psychotherapist is becoming the need of almost every third individual these days. It is important to understand the concepts related to counseling and psychotherapy in order to come to a point where one can decide whether he needs a counselor or psychotherapist.

Difference between Psychotherapy and Counseling

These days numerous people suffer from mental traumas and mental stress either due to professional or personal lives. There are two terms which are used interchangeably “Psychotherapy” and “Counseling”. These terms differ from one another technically. The term counseling is derived from another term “counselor” and counselor means someone who gives advice. Different people explain the same term in different ways but in medical sciences this term means to undergo a medical treatment which is based on analyzing the behavior and conduct of the individual who is under treatment. Different scenarios are discussed in the counseling session which makes it easier for both counselor - to advise the patient and patient - to understand the instructions given by the counselor. Most of the times, counseling is based on series of dialogues between the client and the counselor in order to better understand the situation of the client. Counseling is all about effective communication (Conte C., 2009, pp. 2). Different counselors have different strategies and treatment styles; mental health counseling deals with low self esteem and anger management as well (Palmo A. J. et al., 2006, pp. 14).

On the contrary, there are also certain problems which a person keeps on facing and they start to come up again and again with different scenarios and styles. Psychotherapy is all about analyzing the chronic emotional and physical issues which are faced by an individual. At places it has been stated that psychotherapy is a way how a person is viewed (Bugental J. F. T., 1999, pp. 15). This particular treatment helps a person to realize his thought processing styles and what he thinks about other people from the society and the world. Psychotherapy is a series of treatments conducted by a psychotherapist. Psychotherapy is an advanced field where therapists are trained and acquire professional education from reputed institutions and universities. Psychiatrists and psychologists are amongst the examples of professional psycho therapists. Psychotherapists take care of those clients who suffer from mental illnesses and those who need medical and psychological treatments for their emotional and mental disorders.
