Cosmopolitan Communities

Introduction

Cosmopolitanism

There are different types of communities that exist in the American societies today. One of these types is cosmopolitan communities. Cosmopolitan communities entail a variety of believes, customs, attitudes and interests. Cosmopolitanism is the ideology, according to which, ethnic groups, with similar morality values, belong to one single community. It is believed that the cosmopolitanism is all about creating a government that can rule all the communities, with a variety of beliefs, customs and norms, around the world. It is a system in which different communities come together to be governed by a single entity. This relationship between different communities is not formed because of some kind of autocratic framework but all of them respect each other.

An inhabitant of a cosmopolitan community is known as a cosmopolite or a cosmopolitan, who is bound to share the beliefs and values of his community. No matter what religious, economic or social beliefs a person holds, it is the relationship of respect that becomes a reason for these cosmopolites to form a binding relationship (Heater, 1996, p. 34). In United States, due to the inflow of people from all around the world, there is an increase in the number of cosmopolitan communities due to multicultural provoking.

In view of the cosmopolitans, all the individuals of the world have identical rights.
