This paper will be looking into the relationship between immigration and crime in the United States of America. The main interest of the United States of America, without any doubt pertains to the national security and the goal of U.S.A's policy is for promoting the national security. The paper will be focusing on ways in which immigration has affected the national security of the United States. The difficulty for determining whether the immigration to the U.S.A constitutes a security threat is defining what causes security threats. National security and national interest do not have a generally agreed meaning.
Since the 80, and with the end of the Cold War, national security concerns expanded from traditional focus on the military threats to governments and borders for including the non-military sources that posed insecurity (Rogers and Copeland, 1993). This notion is considered a 'threat' to the country's security, any events or actions threatening significantly, the government policies available to the government, (Ullman, 1983).
These ideas of security draw up the concept leading to senseless results. A military attack against the United States of America is equals to a regime that refuses to allow a human rights organization based in the states, to operate in its country. The former speaks of a threat to nation's security and calls for a military response. However, the latter does not. Therefore, in our paper we will be treating national security as defined in a very traditional manner. Immigration can be a threat to the ideas of security at a national level.
