Corporate Governance and Ethical Responsibility

Introduction

With the advancement of technology and science, the options and treatments of medical care have increases significantly. Hospitals should adopt a holistic approach to provide care and meet the physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of the people that are suffering from life threatening injuries and diseases. The first and primary commitment of the hospital is with the patient. The hospital and medical centre should protect the safety and integrity to maintain competence and professional growth. Corporate governance is also important while providing health care treatments to the patients.

Dr Do Right is the new president of the “universal Human Care Hospital” and he oversees all the department and functions of the hospital. Over the last three years, he has observed that many patients are dying due to lack of responsibility and supervision by the doctors and other staff members. He has also examined that many doctors are using illegal methods to treat patients. Dr Do Right has taken the matter seriously and wants to improve the systems and incorporate clinical governance in the hospitals.

Discussion

Stakeholders are important and essential for any organization. They are people who gain or lose with the outcomes of the business as a whole. Stakeholders can be internal or external. Dr Do Right deals with both internal and external stakeholders on daily basis. The internal stakeholders are from within the organization and their goal is to meet the demands of people and achieve financial objectives. On the other hand, the external stakeholders are from outside the organization. They also have stake but they don't take part in the operations of the organization. Since Dr Do Right is the president of the hospital, it is his responsibility to develop and maintain a healthy relationship with the stakeholders and to work together with them to achieve the objectives. (Lynch, 2003)

Internal stakeholders

The internal stake holders of health care institute are those people who coordinate the activities of the hospital. They also participate in the funding of resources to provide the best treatments to the patients. The internal stakeholder of the hospital includes managers, employees, nurses, trustees etc.

Managers

Managers include the executive directors and the supervisors of the different departments of the hospital. Dr Do Right deals with managers and directors of the human resource, customer service, legal, patient advocacy and other departments to address and fulfill the needs of the patients and other stakeholders. Dr Do Right has contact with managers with daily basis. He oversees the responsibilities of the managers. Dr Do Right should devise policies to satisfy its managers. He should cater their needs and desires. He should support them in their decisions about the different medical treatments. He should not only concentrate on his needs but should also pay attention to employees. The president should also provide a safe and healthy environment, where managers can practice and enhance their skills. (Beauchamp, 1991).
