Introduction

Control is one of the essential ingredients for obtaining success by surviving competitive corporate world. The exertion of control in operations, processes, strategies and initiates acknowledged by organisations is essential in order to assure excellence in prescribed activities. Control is the only tool through which an organisation is equipped to acknowledge the results that it has planned to see. There are several factors that have an eminent influence on control in organisations. The presence of control is realized by almost every operational unit and functional department of organisation. The factors hindering the execution of effective control are aligned with the organisational structure.

Moreover, the influence exerted by external forces upon organisational control cannot be denied as they play substantial role is success or failure of control exerted upon any operation or strategy. The first and foremost factor that influences control is the size of an organisation. It can be realized that size of an organisation is directly proportional to hindrances in control measures exerted by the organisation. The second eminent factor influencing organisation's control is the life cycle in which organisation is currently in. this factor is partly associated with external dynamics of the organisation (Industry focus).

The third factor influencing control of organisation is the strategy to which control is implied. There are some strategies that can easily be implied by an organisation. However, some strategies accompany obstructs such as diversity or change management. Control over these strategies is influenced by diversely strong aspects. Another factor influencing control in organisation is environment in which it operates. This is an external force which correspond all possible external forces that are implied to control in organisation. Nonetheless, technology also has an eminent influence over control in organisations as its obsolescence affects control coping tools to be adapted by an organisation.

Factors Influencing Control

There are five eminent factors influencing control in organisations; organisation's size, life cycle, strategy, environment and technology. This section will elaborate each of these factors and the influence exerted by these factors over control in organisations.

Size of the Organisation

Size of the organisation is directly proportional to the hurdles encountered by it while exerting control on a strategy, operation or any other activity. It is widely accepted that the complications in organisational structure are aligned with its size. Moreover, implementation of control in a sophisticated organisational hierarchy is more difficult as compared to an organisation with informal structure or less hierarchical levels. In corporate world success or failure of a newly launched product or a brand depends upon the strategy aligned with it. Sometimes the failure of a product or a brand even destroys entire image of an organisation (Rodney, 1996, 67-71).
