Introduction

In order to successfully undergo contract negotiation, one requires a considerable exposure and experience, education to support the negotiation and most of all, a comprehensive period of training (Dunne, et al., 2005). Trained negotiators seem to poses a strong hold on their field related knowledge which allows them to critically analyze the case and turn it around in favor for their party. In this essay, various aspects pertaining to contract negotiations have been explored which include the skills and knowledge required to ensure that the negotiation of the contract goes successful.

Critical thinking is kept at the forefront of being a successful contract negotiator. It is considered to be one of the most significant skills that a negotiator should poses mainly because of the fact that it allows the person to alter their thought process in a way which is systematic and involves analysis of wide array of information, all of which accumulates to help arrive at a conclusion which describes whether the information presented is right or wrong (Rotolo, et al., 2009). Critical thinking allows a person to make better decisions and largely help in developing the decision making skills, thus it is imperative that a contract negotiator should not lack on this skill by any mean.

Furthermore, analytical skills are also an important aspect of being a contract negotiator. These skills refer to ones capability of critically analyzing the scenario and problem at hand, and then propose solutions and alternatives which present the most effective solution. It is imperative for contract negotiators to have good analytical skills because this ability allows them to consider a scenario from various aspects and thus provides them a rather holistic picture of the entire case. This goes on to help them reach a credible solution.

Also, one of the most significant skills which the contract negotiator should posses is effective communication skill. As the name suggest, the focal point of the job is to communicate to different parties and ensure negotiations are done effectively such that the party which they are representing benefits from the negotiation. Thus, having good communication skills allow the negotiator to not only listens to what the other party have to say, but it allows them to articulate their point of view in an utterly effective manner.
