Theories of Reflection to develop Contract Learning

Introduction

Contract learning is a significant tool that has been introduced in clinical and nursing practice to enhance the learning capability of the nurses so that through their better reflection and adequate knowledge they can be able to provide better health care services to the people. There are a lot of benefits of contract learning; it not only enhances the learning capacity but also encourages individual learning, increases sense of ownership and responsibility in nurses.

Reflective practices involve considering learning as an iterative method. There are different theories of reflection that are strategized to enhance learning capabilities amongst nurses and improve their practical practice in light of adequate knowledge and experience. Experience is a source of knowledge. Using the knowledge to enhance the decision making process which is integral in nursing practice results in quality health services and greater patient' satisfaction.

Discussion

Reflection theories

At present the nurses are being encouraged to adopt reflective theory for learning and enhancing learning capabilities. Reflective theories use the combination of theory and practice to enhance the learning capabilities in nurses. Reflective practices can assist a learning exchange of ideas between our implied personal experience and theoretical facets of our perception.

Using Reflection theories to develop Contract Learning

It has been observed that the professional development of nurses is more effective and proficient when learning in practice. It helps develop critical thinking that facilitates in decision making process in practical field. Contract learning is a form of learning method that develops active and independent learning and assists students to develop self directing learning approach that would help them in future nursing practice (Griffin & Novotny, 2012, p. 38). Using the theories of reflection contract learning method uses reflection to identify the weak areas and strengths of nurses. The contract learning can either be a positive one and can also be negative.

The use of contract learning is based on sound theories of how nurses learn and develop skills using theoretical knowledge and nursing practice.

Employing Contract Learning in Nursing

The learning contract usage has become evidently important in nursing placement. This is because it provides way to enhance the learning skills that later when implemented with nursing practices produces efficient results. It has become important to know why learning contract has become so important to be implemented in nursing practices. Many researches provide diverse supports towards the employment of the method in nursing. But the foremost reason of its implementation is that it helps nurses identify their weak areas through effective learning and helps them overcome their issues according to the requirements of nursing placement.

Contract learning usage in nursing provides many benefits; it enhances individual learning in them along with enhancing their learning capabilities. It helps the nurses to set objectives that would help the nurses to meet clinical requirements. It helps nurses to develop skills and aptitude that would help them in their future practices. Learning contract this way provides a better mode of communication between ...
