Introduction

Contemporary art and design is an emerging field. However, similar to the ancient and classic branches of art, the contemporary art also aim to highlight a number of incidents and occurrences in the human society. Moreover, the contemporary also focus on some of the other realities that art and literature are meant focus. In addition, the art also plays an important role in highlighting, focusing and emphasizing on some of the other factors that exist in the society. These factors may not have an adverse or an unpleasant effect on the society and the inhabitants. However, these factors certainly enjoy a significant extent of power and influence over the individuals and groups living in the society. Contemporary art therefore plays an important role in identifying and highlighting some of these factors through various means. These may include paintings, literature, magazines and even photography. All these means and mediums are now being used by the modern age artists to express and share their opinions regarding some of these various modern age social factors. It must be noted that one of the most commonly highlighted, and discussed theme in the modern day art and literature is the Gender and the associated controversies. Therefore, this paper aims to discuss the development of the themes associated to gender, analyze it critically and discuss its upon various other factors in the society.

Discussion

It is only evident that one of the most prevalent forms of contemporary art and design in the 21st century is Photography. This particular form contemporary may not require the hard work that the traditional forms of art that may include painting, sketching and so forth. Nonetheless, the photographer is an artist who has the power to focus whatever side, angle and aspect of his subject as he desires for his audience. Hence, similar to other traditional forms of art, photography as well has the ability to highlight or emphasize more on one of the two genders. Consequently, the art of photography also has the capability to emphasize on only the positives or the negatives of any gender.

Theoretical Analysis of Contemporary Design Example

The discipline that I choose for this paper is the photograph by Cindy Sherman that is “Untitled No 96” and published in the year 1981.

As the photograph suggest, the photographer of this image obviously have her interests molded more towards focusing the female subjects to display her painting skills and abilities. The photograph or image also suggests that the Photographer Cindy Sherman has used other secondary subjects to highlight the attributes and characteristics of her main theme or subject that is the female model (Williamson, 2006, pp.48). The fancy colored shirt, the interesting and sophisticated skirt, the make that is decent however obviously visible on the skin of the female subject and other minute details emphasized in the image very interesting yet intriguing are.
