Contemporary challenges and dilemmas in Iran's Tourism Industry

ABSTRACT
Tourism industry is not only essential in providing economic support to the country, but at the same time, it also seeks to improve the image and reputation of the area across the globe. It is due to the same reason that special emphasis is placed on the improvement and development in the tourist industry, and all the possible measures are taken to ensure sustainable development in the tourist industry. The paper also deals with the issues and challenges faced by the tourist industry in Iran, thus highlighting the various factors hindering proper development of the tourist industry and promoting connectedness of Iran with the rest of the world.

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
Introduction of the Chapter
This chapter provides the introduction of the challenges faced by the Iran's tourism industry. The background of the research is presented, and then the problem is highlighting the issues related to tourism industry of Iran. Furthermore, the aims and objectives of the research are also discussed, and then the research questions are discussed for exploring the challenges faced by the Iran's tourism industry. Significance of the research is also discussed, then the research design is presented in which the secondary and qualitative methodology is taken. Finally, the assumptions and limitations are highlighted.
Background
Currently, tourism industry is considered as the most intensively and cost-effective establishing branches of the world economy in the areas of services. It is evident to notice that the share of tourism is approximately 10% of the world's gross national income (Allahdadi, 2011, pp. 870). Advancement of tourism plays a significant role in social and substantial activities. In the past decade, depending on petroleum and its manufactured products has been the most key challenge in the economy of Iran (Fatemi, et al., 2012, pp. 15). Therefore, decreasing the role of petroleum and its products and alternating it with other industries is considered one of the most important purposes of economic plans of Iran (Allahdadi, 2011, pp. 870). Tourism is considered one of the most significant one among these alternating industries (Asadi, 2011, pp. 1021).. The reason behind this is that the creating many jobs, by having the reduced environmental issues and most importantly by having a large amount of foreign exchange. However, it is the fact that the Iran is the 5th attractive country in the world due to its emphasis and priority given to the tourism industry (Fatemi, et al., 2012, pp. 15).. Moreover, in the year of 2009, this country was placed 137th ranking of the countries in terms of attracting and appealing tourists.
