Introduction

Consumer law is a legal framework that is aimed at providing consumers with protection when they buy a service or product. Consumer law is a part of UK's legal system that is designed to ensure consumer protection against issues such as misselling and fraud while buying a service or product. Consumer law applies to the general purchase of services and products down to the specialist areas. For instance, a website that is selling products online with no physical premises is obliged to act in a way prescribed and described in the law to ensure the purchase on the part of consumer is fair and that his/her rights are protected (Beale, 2004, Pp. 289).

Consumer law in United Kingdom is altogether managed and enforced by the Office of Fair Trading however, if consumers are having problems or their issues need to be resolved instantaneously, their issues can be handled at a local level. There are various elements in the consumer law that provides consumers with protection in several ways and by using those elements, consumers can sue a seller/retailer in case of a fraudulent or misleading transaction and receive compensation in return.

Important points in the case of Mr. Sharif

The case of Mr. Sharif involves the transaction of a vehicle that falls in the category of a product. Some of the important points are listed below.

Mr. Sharif goes to the 'A1' car dealership to buy a car. He is attended by one the sales representatives Mr. Don.

Before making the actual purchase decision, Mr. Sharif is provided with an opportunity by A1 car dealership to examine the car in every aspect. This examination includes the car's paintwork and bodywork, interior, bonnet, as well as the engine. Mr. Sharif examines the car thoroughly and takes it for a test drive to make sure it is functioning smoothly.

After test drive, Mr. Sharif informs the sales agent Mr. Don that he is interested in using the car in rally driving. He asks for the expert advice of Mr. Don on the suitability of said car for rally driving.
