Summary

Conflict resolution is gestated as methods to facilitate peaceful ending of an unconcluded conflict (Montville, 1993). To successfully resolve conflicts, active communication and determination towards a mutual solution is required with intentions of proactive commitment from both the ends. These methods include negotiation, diplomacy, mediation and creative peace-building. A number of psychologists shared their views regarding conflict management in their very own way amongst which Goldfien and Robennolt (2007) contribute by sharing their dual-model. According to them, conflict resolution is based on two underlying dimensions; assertiveness - which concerns self, and empathy - which concerns others. They further divide resolution on five different underlying objects, which are Avoidance, Yielding, Competitive, Cooperation and Conciliation (Goldfien & Robennolt, 2007). Universities worldwide offer programs leading to conflict researches, analysis and practices. It is a growing interest in Pedagogy in the US and other leading countries, where students and teachers are persuaded to learn about the mechanisms that lead to its action and solution (Brendtro & Long, 1995). As the society moves towards newer decades , many diplomatic answers are being presented by social scientists and psychologists to resolve conflict-related issues in areas including politics, environment, marital and education (Blattman, 2012).

Conflicts do exist when we talk about complying with issues related to special children too, as they are an integral part of our society and human existence. Special children need focused care and comfort (Peters, 2010). There have been studies related to causes and prevention of issues pertaining to special children. Besty Evans, a psychologist defined a six step mediation process which adults can use to address issues related to special children. In his book, “Conflict Resolution with Young Children”, he regards his six-step process as a helping hand for most of the teachers who are concerned with mental and physical health of their students. If they detect any sign of child being special, approaching calmly and try to stop any hurtful actions which they might impose. It further suggests that 'acknowledging' children's feelings relieves a little amount of disturbance which they might have (NHSP, 2013). Taking a special child just as any other is also helpful. This idea is previously discussed by Lockhart (2010) in his study related to behavioral science. This process is being used in early childhood centers and public schools throughout the world under cognitive studies and is being implemented successfully (Tincani et.al, 2006). In such cases, psychologists suggest parents to gather information of their child who is detected while performing abnormal and vague activities like staring at something for a longer time, unusual movements and most of the time wearing a disturbed expression. Evans, after his previous work in 2002, expands his idea in the area of 'cyberbullying' in 2010 in an educational research. According to his recent studies, he reinstates that the symptoms related to psychological are related to victims of cyberbullying as well.
