Introduction

Conferencing and banqueting have been gaining significant attention side by side with the substantial rise seen in the development of the hospitality industry across the world. It does not anymore characterises first world countries only but rather this development could also be seen in the third world countries, as well. This recent surge in the services by the organisations operating in the hospitality industry could be seen as direct part triggering change of trends in society (Fenich, 2005). Events section could be recognised as an outgrowth or off-shoot of the hospitality and tourism industry, which has gained significant boom in the recent years. Event is control of an instance or period. However, it is the element of pre-planning or planning that makes that model or time an event. Space provider and the client are the prime parties in the events section between whom the dealing takes place. This paper will focus on the events section, though; the events will remain restricted to two critical events pertaining to the hospitality management company; Conference and Banquet Halls. The sector under examination is MICE, which stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions. Even though there are many other names such as Conferences and Banqueting, events, as well as catering. Some examples to illustrate efficiently include weddings, product launches, trade shows, exhibitions and educational day performances among disparate others.

Hospitality

In simple forms, hospitality means the relationship between the guest and the host; regardless of the city which could be either hotel restaurant or home of the host, for it comprises of a hospitable act from one entity towards another.

Hospitality is welcoming and generous reception of guests; either familial or strangers, and entertaining them. The concept is used to define the business of hotels and restaurants; known as hospitality management industry.

I understand Hospitality in its crude form is an attitude; the recipe of which includes two main elements as it is characterized by warm and earnest feelings for the guest extended towards him/ her by the host.

Conference and banqueting

Conferencing and banqueting are related to the hospitality industry in that it usually involves the extension of hospitable reception from one entity towards another. Conference is more towards the corporate side where organizations held meetings whereas; on the other hand, banqueting is more inclined towards informal gatherings, such as wedding and the likes. However, with the passage of time, it is seen that the norms are now changing and companies and corporate organizations could be seen as booking and subsequently using banquet halls for various business related functions and operations. For example, human resource managers conducting invites potential candidates to banquet halls in hotels for an induction test, screening and interview, as banquet halls seem more appropriate as opposed to the conference which has a more professional look.

The changing dynamics indicate towards transitory phase that many of the industries are subjected to, and it is this that has given more possibility to some businesses whereas for some it has lowered or toned down ...
