Regulation affecting public or community health nursing practice

In January 2013, a new regulation went into effect in the state of California that has an enormous impact on the practice of public health nursing. Assembly Bill 2348 states “Existing law, the Nursing Practice Act, authorizes a registered nurse to dispense drugs or devices upon an order by a licensed physician and surgeon if the nurse is functioning within a specified clinic.” (California Legislative Information, 2012)
