Introduction

The aim of this assignment is to write a concept analysis of caring by using WALKER and AVANT(2010) concept steps. Concept analysis is described as an activity in which concepts, their characteristics and their relation with other concepts are clarified.

Selection of a Concept

The concept which has been selected for this assignment is of human caring in the field of nursing. Human caring is one of the human conditions and a conduct that defines being human. Caring can be seen every where all the time. Furthermore, the idea of caring in the field of nursing has been defined and illustrated by researchers and theorists all through the history. Caring is one amongst the human feelings and it refers to the exhibition of empathy and concern for others; having or showing kindness towards others. Caring, as per these definitions, is a feeling that also necessitates an action. When people require support in their daily lives, they frequently look upon their friends and families. Something that we frequently and commonly do is looking after one another. The reason for requiring help from others may be different for different people. It might be that they were born with some natural physical or mental disability or that they had an accident which caused them to be in such conditions so as to require help (McCance, et. al, 1999). Or they simply might have caught some ailment. It can also be that they require help for the reason that they are getting frail with the growing age. Situations different people are in and the reasons for them to require help may vary but what does not vary is the fact that they require care and assistance and hence caring is supposed to be a part of human life. For some people, caring may be a great source of contentment in their lives. It may strengthen and deepen relationships amongst different people; it may serve as an encouragement to live. Caring may surprisingly make people realize that they have within them several skills and potentials that they never would have thought to have acquired.

Purpose of Analysis

Caring has been given great importance in the field of nursing and medical. Infact, it is the founding stone of nursing. The purpose of the analysis of caring is to know what caring really means for patient. A sick patient will recover more quick if he or she has been provided adequate care. Manay researches have been conducted on this which higjlights the importance of caring. Nursing and Caring have been dealt synonymous. Many of the individuals chose to be a nurse by profession due to their aspiration to care other people. It is acknowledged that the central concept of caring caused many theories to emerge, one of them being, Jean Watson's theory of human caring.
