Complex regional pain syndrome type1 after Total Knee Arthroplasty
Complex regional pain syndrome type1 after Total Knee Arthroplasty
Introduction
Patients suffering from symptoms of knee arthritis undergo Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) surgical process to get them relief from the unbearable pain, and enhanced the functioning of knee. TKA surgical process has a 95 percent success rate but in spite of these various patients have reported facing certain difficult situation after the operation like acute pain, improper functioning of knee and various other (Bohannon, 1986).
Patients after undergoing the surgical process of knee replacement feels occurrence of pain as a shocking experience. Medical science have prolonging research have found a number of probable reasons of occurrence of this severe ache. For instance, origination of pain from inside portion of the knee joint because of various reasons such as, infection within the region of knee, severe arthrofibrosis, loosening of the prosthesis and various other problems are interrelated to each other. Secondly, occurrences of pain in the outer portion of the knee join but because of high intensity patient feel the pain in inside part of the body. Occurrence of this kind of pain is generally described as referred pain
Patients after undergoing TKA surgical process come across severe Pain that occurs because of numerous medical reasons and are of broad magnitude, and effective diagnosis of this pain require patients to go through appropriate medical assessment and inspection. Out of various forms of pain, the most common form of pain is described as “complex regional pain syndrome type 1” (Florence et al, 1992).
This severe form of pain was formerly described, as reflex sympathetic dystrophy that could also occur because of various scarce medical reasons. Occurrence of pain after TKA surgery is normal thus; doctors after initial examination are not in a position to disclose this disease. However, experienced doctors have described four common cardinal features that help in identification of this infection or disease such as pain, swelling in the area of pain, felling of rigidity, and changes in the color of skin. In addition to this, feeling of heat and extreme pain in cold atmosphere are also common forms of this disease (Harris & Roscoe, 1987; Bovens et al, 1990).
These are the common forms indicating the presence of complex regional pain syndrome. Further, patient suffering from this disease faces problems of arhtrofibrosis while standing for longer period, patient also faces pre-articular swelling under this disease, problem of stiffness increases if customer daily movement is lower than required. In addition to this, color of the skin changes from normal to dark brown, or color of cyanotic along the area of knee, leg, foot, and level of color change might become severe in cold climate (Kendall et al, 1993).
Medical science is still not able to identify actual and defined reasons of occurrence of complex regional pain syndrome. Initially it was, assumed that the percentage of occurrence of this disease at high magnitude is relatively low, however, later several cases of normal level of pain were reported by patients that have ...
