Complex Carton Packaging with Dexterous Robot Hands
Complex Carton Packaging with Dexterous Robot Hands
Introduction
Technology has grown with leaps and bounds in the last three decades. Globalization has played an immense role in allowing research and information to be shared all over the world and valuable brains have shared information easily. The science of automation and robotics which was considered impossible a few decades back has been accomplished by the scientists and is performing swiftly and robustly to enhance the productivity of various sectors of the industry. The robots utilized in the fields of industry are dedicated robots which are designed and programmed to work for as singular purpose which they perform more effectively than humans with a higher productivity rate and better quality by maintaining the same quality in all products.
Product packaging is a sector of the industry which heavily relies upon automation to pack the products. All products available in the industry require some kind of packaging before they are supplied in the specified markets to be available to the consumer for purchase. Products like gifts, food, clothing, medical supplies, and home based accessories all require rapid packaging of the products to meet the high demands of global consumers. The most common and easy mechanism of packaging available to wrap these products so to bind them in paper cartons to transport.
The contemporary automation machines which use automated hands and conveyor belt for packaging cartons can manufacture a singular type of cartons but in order to meet the demands of competitive markets it is necessary to introduce a versatile machine which can easily modify the packaging style to manufacture various designs of cartons (Liu & Dai, 2003).
Discussion
Historically the only technique employed to manufacture cartons was to use hand labor to manufacture cartons. This technique however, had various problems associated with it, the cost of maintaining the labors was very high, a team of supervisors was required, the speed of productivity was relatively quite slow, and the inconsistency factor for this team was also high. The technique become more obsolete as the tender demands reduced significantly and smaller consignments of varying specs was required.
The requirement in this case had evolve of a machine which could overcome the problem of packaging of random specs and the best technique in this case was using a machine which was automated with multiple hands available for packaging a carton but most importantly it has a programmable microchip installed which can act accordingly.
Construction
It is important to analyze that the carton manufacturing machine will be driven by a controlled program which will be specifically designed to not only produce one simple design of cartons but can modify its technique to design various types of cartons. The program which will be used to manufacture the cartons will work upon a simple flow chart of classification of carton on the first case and later followed by the specs of the material and the size of the carton which needs to be designed.
