Comparison of Thailand and Australian Retail Trends
Comparison of Thailand and Australian Retail Trends
After the recession, not all countries have been able to recover from the economic downfall. This has affected the trends of retail markets all over the world. It is true that the retail trends have always varied from country to country. Each country expands or contracts in terms of retailing with respect to the economic situation. (The Coca Cola Retailing REsearch Council Asia Membership, 2007)
As time passes, all the countries are well on their way to recovery from the effect of economic downfall. The Asian region can be seen to be on the rise, after the economic slump. Looking and focusing on Thailand, the retail sector can be seen to be rising quickly. As with any developing country, Thailand also has two types of retail areas. There are the local retail stores which are found in every neighborhood. The second are the big chain retail stores which are owned by other organizations.
In respect to the big chain retail stores, also known as hypermarkets, the trend has been increasing rapidly in Thailand. However, the contribution of the local retail stores to the economy can not be ignored. The trend of buying of consumers has changed with respect to the changing trends of the consumer likes and dislikes. The recent surveys have shown that the population of Thailand has become health conscious over the time. (Kawazu, 2013)
Thailand is home to several different large retail hypermarkets. Namely Tesco Lotus, the Big C, Slam Makro, Carrefour. These chains are owned respectively by the following countries: United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, and France. Apart from these hypermarkets, there are also a few international supermarkets, namely: Tops owned by CRC, Jusco owned by Japan, and Food Lion owned by Belgium. (Chawala, 2011)
